Lane furniture, founded by John Lane in 1912 in Alavista, Virginia, was encouraged by his son Ed to begin manufacturing cedar chests and eventually expanded to occasional tables, case goods and accent pieces. Lane began manufacturing recliners in 1972 and, after acquiring the Action recliner Industries, saw tremendous growth as they diversified and eventually became a major force in the upholstered furniture industry. Today Lane Furniture Industries is owned by Furniture Brands International which also owns other well known companies such as Broyhill, Thomasville and Drexel Heritage.
